grandparents
i was just wondering if anyone knows the law on grandparents rights in the uk thanks
It's also important to remember that if u can't see the children, you can write send small gifts/magazines. eventually they will be old enough to seek u out.
A friend of mine had this problem where grandparents & auntie (from her ex's side) where trying to gain access & visits to see child, they paid alot of money on court fees & to cut a long story short, court refused access saying it was the mothers choice as to who saw the child due to grandparents, aunties & uncles not being a strong important factor in the up bringing of a child. I'm not saying this is the case for all families but I've heard alot of story's where Grandparents have no legal rights as there is no legal documents (birth ceft) which connects them to a child - sorry I couldn't of been more help

Hello kirsty916
Grandparents do not have any legal rights as such. The law recognises the chilld's right to have a relationship with both parents, provided it is safe to do so....and research shows that it is generally beneficial for a child to know its extended family, which includes grandparents.
There have been cases where grandparents have spent enormous amounts of money taking court actions to give them time with a grandchild. There is a site here that tells you more about it.
