Citizens Advice Bureau

harissa

Is it true that the Government is to close EVERY Citizens Advice Bureau in the country? I have been hearing this rumour for several months now and, until today, thought that was all it was.

I don't see how they can destroy such an essential organisation, especially as my Work Program Adviser, Job Centre and GP have all told me they cannot advise me about the getting signed-off process and that I should get the CAB to help me instead. WHAT is the point of the Work Program and Job Centres if they cannot deal with such typical queries and processes in house? What are THEY being paid for?

I can't phone the CAB, so I approached a disability advice centre who, in turn told me that the CAB attends a deaf club once a month. Whether that is to take bookings or actually offer the advice then and there, I'm sure I'll find out. This is all very worrying as the aim  of getting signed-off was to reduce stress rather than increase it even more! :o(

What on earth is going on????

I am sorry to say I have no information about this one way or another. From my days in the voluntary sector, the CAB staff were always saying they received no Government funding so if that is the case then how could they close them down? However the latest Annual Report on their website shows Government and Local Authority funding! but there are many private corporate funders too.

I agree that organisations should handle their own processes internally!!

Hi harissa

Its awful how much stress single parents are feeling when being faced with JSA.

I have just spoken to our money Expert who works for CAB and she says that it is absolutely not true that CAB is closing.

If you have a question please use our free CAB Ask the Expert.
