Thanks Hazleyes, it does make sense for dosing to be linked to the size of a child. I always used to wonder about the adult dose of things, which on many medicines kicks in at the age of 12, and yet just think of the variation in the sizes and weights of 12 year olds! My youngest was bigger than many adult women by that age! and yet his friend was the height of an average nine year old.

Yes, it does make sense Louise. As it's a medicine that we'd always give our younger ones, we wouldn't feel the need to check the labels would we. It's a bit like when I tried C on paracetamol, the tablets he could have, and yet when I bought the capsules (easier for him to swallow), he couldn't have them at his age!! Now he's back on calpol anyway, as it's easier for him, (more expensive for me though)Frown

When children are old enough to have tablets then one thing I have done in the past if they can't swallow them is to crush them up in a spoon of jam

I had wondered on this myself, i have some very accident prone children well the two eldest are.  At A and E they always go by the childs weight on how much pain meds they can have!   But when i have got them home it's back to the label amount, as Louise mentioned kids vary drastically in size my twelve year old is bigger than me her sister who is eleven is still tiny even though there is only a years age gap!
