Ashiana aims to provide Asian women and children, who have experienced violence, with a safe supportive environment in which they can make their own decisions on how to rebuild their lives away from their abusers.

Barnsley Beacon has been delivering support and advice to family, carers and friends of substance users for 11 years. Our work and the benefits that we provide to our community would not be possible without the help and dedication of our volunteers.

Bike Rescue is a not-for-profit, Community Interest Company, set up in 2006 which specialises in recycling bikes. It has a team of skilled mechanics who service and repair bikes; specialising in keeping older or classic bikes rolling along. You can take your bike in for a full service, which starts at just £36. Refurbished bikes are for sale to the public from their showroom; kids bikes start at £35, adults from £60. All refurbished bikes are sold with a 3 month warranty. Volunteering opportunities may be available.

Bookstart is a National programme that encourages parents and carers to share and enjoy books together with their children from a very early age. The aim of Bookstart is to provide every baby in Sheffield with a Bookstart pack to inspire, stimulate and create a love of reading and to show that books are fun!   The first Bookstart pack is designed for babies from between 6 - 12 months,  Bookstart plus is for toddlers aged between 18 months -

The Burngreave Domestic Abuse Project is a community based project run by a team of trained female workers including an Urdu, Punjabi and Mirpuri speaker. Interpreters for other languages can be arranged.  

Women affected by domestic abuse will be offered practical and emotional support to explore their options, to help them recover from their experiences and to change their situation.

Through our unique combination of budgeting advice, creditor liaison, provision of a CAP account and personal support, we empower people to work themselves out of debt and transform their finances. We operate through a growing number of local centres that are opened in partnership with local churches across the UK.

Offers advice to people from Sharrow, Broomhall, Nether Edge, Abbeydale and surrounding areas on  a range of issues including: benefits, immigration, employment, housing,  tax, debt, child support, and relationship breakdown.

The Clifton Children’s Centre site brings together Clifton Green Primary School, Sure Start, Family Support Team, Little Acorns Neighbourhood Nursery, Kingswater Youth Centre, CAMHS and local health professionals. The Children’s Centre offers services to families in the Clifton area.
There are a wide range of services at Clifton Children's Centre, such as family support, childcare, toy library and learning.

The club offers English practice and some basic English teaching for refugees and asylum seekers and in addition encourages the many skills of the clubs members by producing newsletters, film discussions and forming links with other community groups. Crystal peaks library hosts a range of free/low cost, regular group meetings, activities and events for families including: first Tuesday talks where different speakers are invited to talk on a variety of subjects, a reading group, an amateur dramatics group as well as a bereavement drop in. A voluntary networking and information sharing group enabling established families to support new arrivals whilst retaining a sense of cultural belonging through the development of bi-lingual skills for children and adults. From our central Leeds location, we run a quality second-hand furniture store. We also have a café, hire out meeting/leisure room along with supervised car parking which is available for public use. We have also an Emmaus Leeds furniture stall situated in Leeds market near the corn exchange. The business is vital to our Community as this is how we generate the income which will enable us to become financially self-sustaining, supporting the costs of the Community whilst providing opportunities to help Companions.

Family Links promotes loving, kind relationships within families, schools, communities and prisons. We train parenting practitioners to deliver our Nurturing Programme in statutory and voluntary organisations across the UK. We also train school staff to promote a positive ethos in their schools.

Headlands Out of School Club is situated in the grounds of Headlands Primary School in Haxby. Our aim is to provide an environment that is not only safe and secure, but is also a relaxing and fun place for your children to come to out of school hours. 

The club is open every school day. Our Breakfast Club runs from 7.30am until 8.55am. This session offers the children the opportunity to have a nutritional breakfast along with the chance to play prior to the start of the school day.

The Healthy Cross Community Project offers support to local people and aims to enhance the quality of life for local residents. Offers group actvities and support for individuals; projects include recruiting local people to a Buddy Scheme to help others who may need support to access activities, such as joining walks, training course or simply to be a friend. Runs food and nutrition courses, a  weekly minibus service for people who are unable to go shopping themselves and volunteering opportunties.

Heeley City farm has a range of friendly animals, an under 8's Playground, a Farm Café serving healthy, farm-cooked meals, a  Garden Centre and Gift Shop featuring local crafts. The farm works with local people and organisations on a range of projects including, healthy eating and hertitage projects. The farm also offers a wide range of volunteering opportunities from helping out in the cafe, looking after the animals to helping out in the office and organising events.

Highfields Adventure Playground in Mount Pleasant Park, Sheffield provides out of doors activities in an adventure area which includes swings, slides, and a zip wire.  Indoor areas provide opportunities for arts and crafts, board games, table tennis; and pool and most activities are free of charge. Parents/carers are welcome to stay and participate in the activities or just sit and watch with a cup of tea. Experienced staff are on hand to assist the children if needed. Opening Times

HomeDad UK is a support group dedicated to helping dads who are staying at home to bring up their children. They have over 500 members who are either at home full-time, work part-time or are raising kids on their own.

Jubilee Debt Advice Centre provides free debt counselling and support to anyone who finds themselves in financial difficulty

Provides mediation to help with a range of family-related disputes as well as support services for children and young people. Separation & Divorce Children & Young People Parenting Parents & Teenagers Family Conflict Living Together Agreements Civil Partnerships Pre-Marital Agreements Appoinments can be made by telephone or through solicitor referral. Local appointments are available in Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham. Also has a drop-in facility, for a free information meeting.

We collect donated household items in the Keighley/Skipton area to pass on to people on very low incomes. We are particularly interested in Cookers, Washing Machines and Fridges as we have just been granted funding to start a white goods re-use workshop.People on benefit come along, choose their own furniture and household items. Our large premises enables us to accommodate extra items and work with the council to achieve their recycling targets.

We offer support to men and women in Kirklees over the age of sixteen who have experienced some form of sexual or physical abuse. We provide one- to- one counselling, advocacy, an Independent Sexual Violence Advisory Scheme, support sessions, outreach and a helpline which is open to survivors, their families and partners.

The Children’s Centre services are shaped to meet the needs of people in the local community and we make sure that the views of children and parents are heard and that the services reflect what they say. 

There are all sorts of activities for parents and children taking place in the Children’s Centre and in the community and these include:

There are facilities for members to play Pool and Table Tennis and board games for free. There are also computers with internet connection.

Nomad offers advice, support and practical help to homeless or inadequately housed people or those in housing need. Services include:Tenancy support: for people in North Sheffield who have been homeless or are at risk of losing their homes - help offered with budgeting, benefit claims and general life skills.

Offers a range of courses including accredited ECDL, CLAIT and wordprocessing computer courses as well as craft courses. Subsidies and free learning courses for people on unemployment benefit, jobseekers allowance, income support, working families tax credit and any disability allowance. Also runs a social group/club.

The Ozanam Project is a furniture reuse and redistribution project which aims to provide good quality furniture free of charge to families and individuals in the Halifax area who need help and assistance with their basic needs. The project collects second hand furniture free of charge and stores it until it can be given a new home with a family or individual who is referred to the scheme. It is then delivered to them free of charge. The project is run by volunteers, and at the moment only collects and delivers at certain times.

Parent Lifeline is a charity which offers emotional support and understanding to parents under stress of any kind, whatever the ages of their children.  Rainbow Money is a new project offering debt advice and independent support to community members struggling with their personal finances.
 
We are not a bank, building society or loan company and our support is offered for free.  We will not ‘take your debt away’ but we will help you take a step back, consider options and then take control.
This project has four main areas of work: providing advice, information and practical support to refugees and asylum seekers to help them access education, training and volunteering opportunities acting as a central information point about the availability of English Language classes across Sheffield, setting up support groups and other appropriate mentoring activities for refugees from professional backgrounds - such as the Refugee engineers' support group and the Refugee teachers' support group.setting up volunteer work placements and other employment familiarisation initiatives for
Roshni is a resource centre for Asian women living and working in Sheffield.Services include: Information, advice and support, assistance for women in the use of social and welfare agencies, formal and informal learning opportunities, activities including cultural events, conferences, day trips, understanding and awareness of issues affecting women both locally and nationally and health and well-being activities.

The Partnership aims to develop the quality of life in all areas of environmental and social activity through community involvement.

This project enhances the development and education of children under school age and primarily from single parent families by facilitating community groups and the provision of stimulating play. They also provide advocacy, advice and information.

SHAP can offer specialist support to any young, pregnant woman or single parent aged 16 to 30 years old. Support can be provided for people who either have their own tenancy or need help to find one. Each person is allocated a Support Worker who they must meet with on a regular basis. The support can last for as long as the person and their Support Worker feels that is needed up to a maximum of 2 years. Support will be offered for any issues that the person has such as finding accommodation, budgeting, benefits and acquiring furniture.

Sheffield Carers Service is a dedicated service for adult carers, relatives and supporters of people with a severe mental illness, regardless of whether or not the person they care for is using mental health services. The project offers a free confidential and support service to carers which includes: emotional support, information about carer's rights and assessments, access to carer's support groups and men's groups, support at reviews and ward rounds if appropriate, information about the illness treatments and medication as well as coping strategies.
The Sheffield Chinese Community Centre provides a range of services for the Chinese community in Sheffield. Services include: Chinese Citizens Welfare Advice Vietnamese Citizens Welfare Advice ESOL and basic computer classes Health programmes Youth projects        

SCOOP Aid is a locally based charity with strong grass roots links and over 35 years experience of delivering advice, information, support and training for lone parents.

Activities include:

Sheffield Credit Union provides simple financial services to members who live or work within the Sheffield City boundary and to offer them easy ways to save and access affordable loans. There are many collection points and deposit points across the city. Member costs £1 to join and £1 to start savings. Contact for more information. The Credit Union also offers volunteering opportunities in a range of roles - working at the central office, at collection points, on various committees and as members of the board of directors.

Home-Start Sheffield supports parents with at least one child under 5 who are dealing with issues such as
isolation, sickness, disability, mental health, domestic abuse, twins / triplets and difficult relationships. The service provides volunteers who offer tailor-made one-to-one support on a regular basis, outreach and family groups, information and links and access to parenting advice and parenting skills training.

Sheffield Law Centre provides free, independent legal advice. It aims to help people who cannot access or afford other legal help.The charity offers advice in the following areas of law: Housing, employment, immigration, asylum and discrimination. Provides an advocacy service for adults using mental health services in Sheffield which is to help them have their say about the care they receive.

Sheffield Mind offers advice, support and counselling for people suffering from Mental Health difficulties, their carers and families. Services include: information giving, counselling, group work, art therapy work, health and well being and parenting groups.
Provides impartial information, advice and support to the parents and carers of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). Parent Partnership can offer advice over the telephone or in person.

We offer a FREE professional and confidential service, for women and girls (aged 13 upwards) who have experienced sexual abuse and /or rape at any time in their life, in a safe and friendly environment.

Samaritans provides confidential non-judgemental emotional support, 24 hours a day for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which could lead to suicide. Most branches of the Samaritans services are by telephone, email, letter and face to face. Also offers volunteering opportunities with full training and support given.
Small charity which offers support for women (aged over 16 years) and their children in the South East of Sheffield, who have left or who are considering leaving violent / abusive relationships. Offers practical and emotional support, advocacy, advice and information, home visits and specialist advice service / drop-in, telephone helpline and referrals to other services. Also offers accredited volunteering opportunities.
St Vincent de Paul Furniture Store provides low cost goods and household items to disadvantaged individuals and families, offer a listening ear, and where appropriate, arrange for local SVP members to visit those most in need.

We stock a wide range of used furniture and white goods at very reasonable prices. To ensure a constant supply we also stock a low cost range of new beds, fridges, freezers, washers, driers and gas and electric cookers.

We operate a 2 level pricing system whereby those in most need (which includes anyone receiving a means tested benefit, and students) are able to buy at an even lower price than the general public. If you wish to buy at reduced prices, please bring evidence of your eligibility with you when you visit our store. Free delivery may be possible

The Stow Centre project  create a variety of opportunities for local people and Family Service Unit clients and to help them learn, or update their computer skills and the opportunity to improve  their chances in the job market. As well as basic computer courses the centre also runs ESOL classes and Internet & Email classes, some of which are accredited through the Open College Network (OCN).

A not-for-profit furniture project, ensuring that unwanted furniture is given a new lease of life. This service ensures that people on low incomes can purchase high quality furniture at affordable prices. This has the added benefit of reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.

The project offers a range of courses and training opportunities to the residents of Gleadless Valley and surrounding local areas. Valley Online Centre has a suite of computers for FREE internet access and a team of Learning Champions who can assist with finding local courses. Vida, formely Sheffield Domestic Abuse Forum is a service for women who have experienced domestic abuse and are looking for support in their recovery. We run a womens support group with creche, which meets fortnightly to offer both practical and emotional support. We also offer our Eva Counselling and Therapy Service, which offers counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy, Coaching, Dance and Movement Therapy, Emotional Freedom Techniques,and in the autumn Drama Therapy.

Voluntary Action Calderdale provides a comprehensive service to groups/organisations that seek to involve volunteers and to those individuals who wish to volunteer.

We are a not for profit organisation that collect furniture donated to us by people in the local areas. This furniture is put on sale in our shop. Anyone can use our shop and those who can provide proof that they are on income related benefits will be entitled to get a 20% discount off furniture over £20. The aims of the project are to stop reusable furniture from going to landfill, provide good quality low cost furniture for those on low income and have volunteering opportunities within the local community.

Woodseats Advice Centre offers a free and confidential advice and information service to the local community. Services include a drop-in service and telephone advice for people within postal areas S8 and S17, home visits for the housebound (older people or people with disabilities) within the project remit area, outreach sessions at Lowedges twice a week and Totley once a week and a Families Outreach Worker who works specifically with families on Lowedges, Batemoor and Jordanthorpe.

Charity organisation that runs local courses in community centres, schools, village halls, workplaces as well as other venues. Tries to offer something different from the other educational choices available for adults. Some courses are targeted at particular groups (for example, parents with young children), whereas others are open to the general public. Courses intended for anyone. Subjects can vary greatly, ranging from Creative Writing to Using the internet, taking in anything in between, from the Brontes to Local History.

Our volunteers and staff have been working with people in local communities since 1903. We are a democratically run charity with people taking part in making decisions and planning their own local courses. We have very few buildings of our own and run courses in places that people feel are convenient and ‘safe’. We run courses in community centres, schools, village halls, workplaces as well as in some surprising places. We have run courses for farmers in auction marts and for would-be musicians in recording studios and live music venues.

York Carers Centre is an independent body that helps unpaid carers in York find the support they need.

York CAB offers a comprehensive advice and representation service which means that you can ask us any question about your situation or concerns and we will do our best to offer you the advice and support you need. If we can't help you we will find someone who can. The Bureau also employs a range of specialists who are professionals in particular areas of welfare law. Should you need their support we will refer you to the appropriate person once you have been seen on our general advice service.
