W.H.A.C. is a registered charity which provides services relating to the health and well being of women and adolescent girls in Northumberland. 

The services are delivered by trained volunteers who are supported by paid staff. A Health Trainer, employed by the NHS, is also based at the centre to offer help and advice on lifestyle issues.

Provides support to African refugees and asylum seekers living in the North East of England. Provides advocacy, information and advice, operates a drop in service and runs occasional activities and training courses at the weekend.

Minority Ethnic womens' centre, run by and for women from minority ethnic communities. Provides advice and support on benefits, employment, health, immigration and housing. Young girls group - English and computer classes and other vocational courses. Translation & interpreting service and Creche. Opening hours: Monday - Friday 9.15 - 12 noon, 1 pm - 4.15 pm

The Baby Equipment Loan Service provides basic items of baby and safety equipment to people North Tyneside. Both long and short term hire is available and local delivery can be arranged for a small fee.  Also available are wooden and travel cots, single and double buggies, highchairs, baby monitors, fireguards and safety gates at a subsidised cost.

Bedewell After School Club provides affordable childcare to parents and carers of children aged 4 – 11 in Hebburn and its surrounding areas.

Bedewell After School Club aims to provide a safe, secure and friendly environment for children where a wide variety of activities are always available. We value our relationship with both parents/carers and children and are committed to working in partnership to provide top quality play and care for all children.

Bill Quay farm has developed into a rare breeds centre with animals including cows, goats, pigs, sheep, chickens and rabbits. Also has an art trail and is a green retreat for wildlife. Facilities include a cafe (weekends), picnic areas, baby-changing facilities and disabled ramps and toilets. Cafe is also open during school holidays (12 noon - 4:30pm).

Assists people with A.D.H.D. and other associated conditions, including coping with the disability or seeking help for someone with A.D.H.D. Also offers a parent support group every other Monday at the Eric Tolhurst Centre for supporting parents and children with A.D.H.D.

The BME Case Advocacy project is a free service for everyone from the Black and Minority Ethnic communities aged over 18 and who lives in Newcastle. Provides short-term advocacy support around health and social care issues. This includes talking about treatment with a doctor, care in hospital, getting help in the home and information about support services.

This organisation has centres in Colombia, Sulgrave, Albany and Chester-le-Street. The Bridge aims to increase women's confidence, self esteem and support their personal development to be independant and have control over their own lives and learning activities.

The Community Furniture Service is a furniture and electrical reuse and recycling project. The project provides a wide range of furniture, electrical appliances and general household items at affordable prices and also provides training and development for disadvantaged people within the West of Newcastle to support people to gain long-term jobs.

Provides a monthly home visiting service, to support mothers of children under the age of 7, and help to build their confidence. Self referral.

Discovery is a free museum where the exhibits are about life in Tyneside. Gateshead First Credit Union is an amalgamation of 4 credit unions. Anyone who lives or works in Gateshead Metropolitan Borough can join.
Gateshead Supporting Children provides early intervention in the form of activities which help develop social, emotional and educational skills, build resilience and promote constructive communication between families and schools.

The project offers advice to people with disabilities and their families, on financial issues or other topics.

HomeDad UK is a support group dedicated to helping dads who are staying at home to bring up their children. They have over 500 members who are either at home full-time, work part-time or are raising kids on their own.

Support group for parents who have a child with difficult to manage behaviour including ADD and ADHD. Group meetings take place alternate Wednesday's and Friday's, 10am-1pm.

Offers family support and Outreach, including parenting programmes, support to children and families with additional needs. Offers a full range of childcare, nursery, creche, out of schools, wrap around care and can link parents with local childminders.

Run by volunteers who all have a family member with ADHD. The group is open to parents/carers, siblings, aunts, uncles and grandparents - Professionals with an interest in ADHD are welcome too. Have a small amount of books and literature which members can borrow and try to organise events and activities with funding is available.  The group meets Wednesday mornings from 10am-12.30pm in the family room at West Walker Family Centre, Newcastle

Newcastle Toy and Leisure Library supports children with disabilities and is unique in Newcastle as it also supports the whole family.

NIWE eating distress service aims to provide support to all those in North East England whose lives are affected by eating distress, or eating disorders. Services include:

  • information and training

We also work to increase knowledge and awareness of eating distress and its effects.

We have a carers' group which runs every second Thursday of the Month at Newcastle Carers' Centre 10:30 -12.30.

Northern Oak Credit Union is a mutual financial services co-operative which provides a savings and low cost loans service to its members. Everyone living or working in the metropolitan borough of North Tyneside is eligible for membership. It is democratically owned and controlled by its members for the benefit of its members.

Prudhoe Children's Centre opened its doors to families in July 2006.

We are a small friendly staff team who work closely with local practitioners to bring you a range of services. Over the past 2 years we have been working hard to expand our range of services and we are constantly looking for ways to improve.

We are open from 9am until 3pm Monday to Friday and during those hours we have a varied programme of activities.

R.E.A.C.H. exists to provide a comprehensive support service, forensic medical examination (where appropriate) and counselling to women and men who have been raped or sexually assaulted as an adult, e.g. aged 16 or over when assault occurred. Seven Stories is an exhibition space dedicated to the celebration of British children's literature. The changing programme of exhibitions is designed to spark the imaginations of children and adults, and inspire exciting new work. There's always a choice of activities on offer throughout Seven Stories. Including dressing-up and dramatic fun, creative writing and wordplay, illustration and craft activities.

ShARP is an advice and resource project which delivers free welfare rights advice including debt/financial advice as well as providing general support and training opportunities to residents of the Coalfield area of Sunderland.

Sure Start Children's Centre Western Tynedale operates from premises in Haltwhistle and serves a large rural area in that most westerly part of the county, offering integrated education, care, family support and health services.

The WEA is a national charity which provides access to education and learning for adults from all backgrounds, and in particular those who have previously missed out on education. The organisation runs courses on subjects such as art for pleasure and cake decorating. There is a charge but concessions are available.

The challenge of change pervades our programme in the North East Region, from the way we relate to our peers and our employers in the workplace, to our family and friends in Family Learning Programmes and to our neighbours in communities.

An informal opportunity to meet other parents up to the age of 24, parents can bring along their babies and pregnant mothers also welcome. The group gives the opportunity to socialise and talk about any concerns. Takes place every Thursday  3pm - 4.30 pm.
