My ex was violent, should I claim CSA?

Jean Smith“Generally I believe that violent men and women should not be excused from their financial responsibility to their children, however your safety and that of your family is paramount, but if you feel that you are in a safe position and you want them to contribute you will need to contact the Child Support Agency.

It is important that the CSA are made aware of your situation at the offset as they have procedures and safeguards to protect you from harm. Eg: not revealing your whereabouts in any communications to the Non Resident Parent.
They can send letters about maintenance from an untraceable centre (for example if you live in Leeds, they could write from the Plymouth or Belfast office to protect you).

You have the choice about using the CSA so if at any point you feel that getting maintenance is not the right thing to do, you can stop the action.

I really hope that you are successful in getting maintenance from them because your children deserve a share of his income.”
