Housing Benefit
Housing Benefit is a national welfare benefit which helps people on a low income to pay their rent.
If you have recently become a single parent or your income has decreased you may be entitled to claim.
Housing Benefit is a Means Tested Benefit which means that when benefit is worked out, the following things are taken into account:
• Income
• Savings
• Investments
• Everyone living as part of your household
Local Councils run the Housing Benefit system using Government rules.
You can apply for Housing Benefit if you rent your home from:
• The Council

Housing Benefit can only be paid on the actual rent charged. Some service charges such as shared cleaning or gardening can be paid, but personal services such as private garage cannot.
