Council Tax Benefit
Council Tax Benefit is financial help towards your Council Tax bill.
You can claim Council Tax Benefit if:
- You are in receipt of benefits
- You are on a low income
- You can claim a 25% reduction to your annual Council Tax Bill if you are the only adult living in your home.
You can claim a Second Adult Rebate if you share your home with someone who:
- Is not your partner
- Is aged 18 and over
- Is a non rent paying resident
Is not paying Council Tax themselves
- Is on a low income or
- You are not entitled to Council Tax Benefit
- You are only entitled to the 25% discount
Eligibility to Council Tax Benefit:
- Council Tax is a Means Tested Benefit and all income savings and investments will be used as part of this calculation
- If you have over £16,000 in savings you will not be eligible for Council Tax Benefit (unless over 60 and in receipt of Pension Credit)
- Your savings will not affect any Second Adult Rebate as this is based on their income/circumstances and not yours.
- Most asylum seekers and people sponsored to be in the UK will not be eligible for Council Tax Benefit.
